Deadpool 3 looks to honor the defunct Fox Marvel franchise as the movie sets Jennifer Garner to return as Elektra. Ryan Reynolds is finally joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wade Wilson will be joining the Avengers-based universe through Deadpool 3. Production is currently underway on the film, with Deadpool 3 set for a 2024 summer release date.
It appears that Deadpool 3 is joining the multiverse bandwagon, as THR has revealed that Garner is returning as Elektra after almost 20 years. The actress starred in Ben Affleck’s 2003 Daredevil movie before starring in her own 2005 spinoff film, Elektra. No details were given about her appearance in Deadpool 3 at the time of this story’s publication. She joins the Deadpool 3 cast alongside Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and a host of Deadpool franchise returns.
What Jennifer Garner Returning As Elektra Means For Deadpool 3
With rumors about Deadpool 3 seeing Wade messing with the multiverse, it makes perfect sense as to why Garner’s Elektra is getting implemented in one way or another. Given the number of people in the cast, she will likely not have a massive storyline and, instead, may be one character Deadpool runs into while visiting different universes. In true Deadpool fashion, it wouldn’t be shocking if Wade is literally trying to travel to the MCU universe, but gets sent to wrong realities first.
Garner coming back as Elektra does also add fuel to the rumors that Affleck was spotted on the Deadpool 3 set, supposedly meant to reprise the role of Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil. Having Deadpool 3 visit their world is a chance to check in on what Daredevil and Elektra have been up to since the early 2000s when their films were released. But if Marvel Studios is going to these lengths to revisit the early Fox Marvel films, it does beg the question if this will somehow even tie into the old Fantastic Four movies, which featured Chris Evans as Johnny Storm.
At this point, it would make sense if Deadpool 3 is serving as a proper finale for the Fox Marvel movies before Wade is officially integrated into the MCU for good. Fox never gave a proper sendoff to their original X-Men and Fantastic Four films, and it would be hilarious to see Deadpool acknowledge through his fourth-wall-breaking humor how confusing their films have been prior to Marvel Studios getting the rights back. Hopefully, it won’t be long until more info about Deadpool 3 is released and explains what can be expected from this MCU movie.
